Baseball on the Radio
(This was one of the first concept albums I created from over ten years ago. Songs loosely follow a story of a nuclear bomb hitting a baseball field, which was a weird dream I had around this time.)
BASEBALL ON THE RADIO
1 - On the Road (v1) When they go out on the road Figures start to float All faceless (v2) Serotonin slowed In the radiation’s glow A light ageless (v3) Shadows gather low Revelators know How to fake it (bridge) The days have lost control The debt now paid in full (chorus) At the end of recovery Kept the wild from discovery Waking up to a foreign god in foreign lands And still the same (v4) When they go out on the road Signals start to smoke Bought a quick trial (v5) Blue Ridge breaks her song Showered in the flow Of the skeptical (v6) Neon afterburn Wired functional The past never behind at the end
2 - Rearranger (v1) Without a plan The crest's demand, stewed memories Hit the cycle estranged Pistol reprimands, paved to safer stands (chorus) Pulling teeth Ransom of fates Trusted leaps To run the dusk proud (v2) Daylight feeds Hazy higher plans, the cycle uncrowned Dying rearranged Artificial plots and crowds to drown out
3 - The Quelling (v1) Until you get what you wanted Graduate, gain your marking Start a war, find a lover Write a song for the radio (chorus) It’s good you keep your guards around When you make this soil proud Take your medicine in rounds Seldom grip that final sound But they keep us all entertained (v2) Until you get what you wanted Accentuate your finest features Look alarmed whenever questioned And keep control of your faculties, cradle their prophecies But only when fit for the haunted anchoring
4 - Freedom of the Absurd (v1) The crystal fortress they could only dream of Thoughts like whispers spin the wheel Shadowed voices keep on doubling up Symptoms grace the astral sphere (v2) Triple spiral always freshens the blood Wishful waking for the hunt Let them flurry down and cover their heads Dead are better left for dead (v3) Spread sedition down to kidneys and lungs Shot the messenger for dues Kept them guessing in their hallelujahs Digging tunnels to the root (bridge) The future convincing Absurdist addiction Don’t hurry the present It never existed Abandoned connections Unwilling to suspend But always suspected Emergence rejected Less detailed compassion One calling, one relay Lost signal on contact Conspired for collapse Evolving from witchcraft The drains of human romance Phantom plays of rival nations Insanity incarcerated Charlatans are waking now The anarchist up in the clouds Charlatans are waking now The anarchist up in the clouds (outro) Drained diversions, staples doubled instead As a child, the quicksand crept Waves revisit, capture all they dream of Paid the cynics for their bread
5 - Where the River Flows (v1) Sticking needles in your arms Confessing songs you once forgot Seen every science fiction god under the sun (v2) Still every echo lingers on Like pulling teeth from sacred psalms Got the world under his thumb, the storm before the calm (chorus) Here comes the sun to restore Here comes the hungry hordes To the beat of the drums To the beat of the drums Where the river flows (v3) Writing songs that won’t be sung Not good enough for ancient tongues Once the chemicals succumb, the voice is gone (v4) Towards the spoils goes the guns Where the brokers have their fun Right before that bell is rung, the ropes are hung (v5) And now the alligators run There’s no innocence in this town Been making friends and making up where I am from And forgetting what was won (v6) But the beast is waking up And can’t remember what was lost Some were given time to jump before the drop
6 - The Winter Theory (v1) Strangers in life And as strangers we die Made up our minds to spread the divide (v2) The blurred life With faders and blinds Spent the winter inside and let the fables collide (chorus) With every heartbeat The night becomes clearer The signals erased from their minds Counting the days With a scavenger’s gaze This bitter stasis configures the stars Chimes from the belfry The mystic’s duality (v3) The man in the sky Sequestering time Degrading our crimes, when he’s on our side (v4) The good life On pace with the light Remnants consigned to vacant designs (outro) At the end of the line When their memories collide Just strangers in life, and as strangers we die
7 - Baseball on the Radio (v1) With baseball on the radio Took a walk outside Felt the breeze unfold (v2) Crows came down when the sirens dove They redrew their lines In the ash and mold (v3) With baseball on the radio Saw a good man die Heard the trumpets blow (chorus) And how many times (how many times) Must we come to an end (how many times) Must we fuck with the stars (how many times) Until the whole damn thing resets (v4) With baseball on the radio Swept the message high Focus low (v5) Mushroom cloud Safe at home Windows down, dulcet drone (bridge) They lit a fire Shot through the sky Colder than any winter could desire They lit a fire, they lit a fire They lit a fire, they lit a fire (outro) Pack the car, we leave today (with baseball on the radio) Pack the car, we leave today (saw a good man die) Pack the car, we leave today (heard the trumpets blow)
8 - The Fallout (v1) Couldn’t wait to go outside If it’s just a dream, open my eyes Take a breath, hunt that ride Could be passing through tonight (v2) When the throne lit up At the carnival They froze from the love Unconditional (v3) As they hit the lights All the sinews posed Con of victory's pride Waiting to reload (v4) Captains of industry Sultans of slow romance Rather stay ahead Too afraid to reach the bends (v5) Cigarette to name the stars Never enemies at heart Some were blessed to raze the day Some were raised to bless their hearts Not a debt to waste in vain Just their egos leaving scars (v6) When the lights went out At the hospital Pulling straws So predictable No one could recall How their names were drawn (v7) When they bled their sight On the sinking sun Muscle memory forced Feeding paranoia (v8) Captains of industry Sultans of slow romance Rather stay ahead Too afraid to reach the bends (v9) Cigarette to name the stars Never enemies at heart Some were blessed to raze the day Some were raised to bless their hearts
9 - The Melting Point (v1) God, what is your melting point Light a candle, smoke the message Time slips away through her hourglass Without warning she awakes (chorus) Cut out lives Some parameters breached Born and buried in the heap Dueling devils in disguise Cults of pressure beating Laying down our conquered lunacies The cost of admission (v2) God, taken with avarice To make it special, make it special Time lingers long through her paradox Taming tourists in her wake (chorus) Sought out stars Past the Seraphim’s reach Veiled and levied on their knees Glimmer in their eyes Of darker degrees Laying down our conquered lunacies The crux of remission
10 - April Haze (v1) They got caged in color Forever lost inside the light Like a wounded castaway Falling back against the signs (v2) They convinced the serpent Every melody assigned Like a mythic casualty Always measured by the fire (outro) They got caged in color Forever lost inside the light
